Kroos leads Real Madrid to victory over Cadiz

MADRID 10 November (Reuters) -- Toni Kroos scored a goal and set up a goal for Eder Militao when

Real Madrid beat second-bottom Cadiz at 2-1 on Thursday in their final LaLiga game prior to their World Cup break.

The champions have returned to winning manners after losing 3-1 against Rayo Vallecano on Monday, their first defeat in league play of the season.

They are currently second in the league standings with 35 points, two points less than the leaders Barcelona.

The atmosphere was one of end-of-season in the cold night in Santiago Bernabeu with the World Cup commencing in less than two weeks.

The game was not one to be a classic. Cadiz were in full defensive mode, and Real Madrid struggled to break the team down.

Cadiz almost took a surprise lead after the defender Alfonso Espino fired a long-range shot

that hit the bar before crossing the goal the goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois an absolute scare.

Real scored within the first minute of the game, when Kroos provided a flawless low cross off a corner from

the left-hand side that was spotted by Militao who put the ball into the net with no space.

Real was in control after the break, and Kroos added to the lead after a slam strike following an off-target shot during the 70th minute.

Luka Modric missed a great chance to score a third after a perfectly low cross by Vinicius Junior.

and Cadiz scored a consolation goal after Courtois was unable to stop the long-range shot of Theo Bongonda and Lucas Perez hit the ball hard into the net.

Cadiz remains 19th in the standings , with 11 points
